PRACTICAL ADVICES
Getting around Paris is quick and simple using the metro. There are trains every 3 to 5 minutes. On average one subway line consists of 25 stations. From north to south of Paris, or from East to West, travelling time should not exceed 50 minutes. It's very easy and fast to go from an area to another (3 or 4 metro stations).
€UROPEAN CURRENCY : The €uropean currency is the €uro. €uro bank-notes : 5,10,20,50,100,200 and 500 €. €uro coins : 1,2,5,10,20 and 50 cents.
MONEY : keep your money in a pocket rather than in a bag.
THE TAP WATER IN PARIS : Tap water in France undergoes the most stringent of tests and is renowned for its quality. It's contains essential elements : calcium, sodium, magnesium, potassium, making it a well-balanced mineral water which can be consumed by all.
HEATING IN APARTMENTS : In winter, all the apartments are heated from October 15th (Frendh law).
YOUR ARRIVAL TO PARIS FROM CHARLES DE GAULLE AIRPORT - CDG - Location : about 15 miles (25 km) northeast of Paris.
Getting to and from the airport :
RER : A RER/TGV station serves the airport directly. Trains into Paris leave every 15 minutes from 5 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.(7 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekends). Travel time is 35 minutes to Gare du Nord. Fare is 7.70 €uros in 2009.
ROISSYBUS : is the most direct and easiest mean of transportation from Charles de Gaulle Airport to the centre of Paris. Departs every 15 minutes between Roissy Terminal 2 and Opera (in Paris), from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. An average travel time is 45 minutes if traffic is clear. Fare is 8 €uros in 2009, payable on board. Children under five travel free.
AIR FRANCE BUS : Line '2' : buses leave every 10 minutes from 5:45 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., taking passengers to Porte Maillot, Place de l'Etoile. Travel time is about 25 minutes if traffic is clear ; an hour or more during rush hours. Fare is 10€uros in 2009. Line '4' : buses leave every 30 minutes from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., stopping at Gare de Lyon and Gare Montparnasse. Travel time is about 50 minutes. Fare is 11.50 €uros in 2009.
TAXI : Stands are located outside all airport exits. Price about 50 €uros, and travel time to Paris is about an hour if traffic is clear.

AIRPORT SHUTTLE : This is a door-to-door shuttle service between the Airport and Paris. Paris-airport-shuttle is a rental service offering chauffeur-driven automobiles with drivers specialized in the door-to-door transport of passengers between Roissy Charles de Gaulle and Orly airports to Paris. Cars are air Conditioned, modern and regularly serviced. The drivers used for airport transfers tend to speak both English and French.The fleet of vehicles is primarily made up of mini-buses with seating for up toseven passengers, plus seating for the driver. Departure from Place Denfert-Rochereau to Orly airport : from 5.45 a.m. to 11 p.m.Travel time : taking about 60 minutes. Fare is 9.60 €uros in 2009.
AIR FRANCE BUS : Line 1 : buses leave every 10 minutes from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., stopping at the following stations : Montparnasse, Invalides, Etoile/Arc de triomphe and Orly. Travel time is about 35 minutes if traffic is clear, an hour or more during rush hours. Fare is 11.50 €uros in 2009.

YOUR ARRIVAL TO PARIS FROM BEAUVAIS AIRPORT : Location : about 79 miles (105 km) northwest of Paris.
Beauvais is not a Parisian Metropolitan area, it is not even in the Ile-de-France region. Beauvais is in the region know as Picardy. However, flying into Beauvais might still be the best deal if you are coming from Dublin, Stockholm, Budapest, Barcelona or Rome where rail or rail plus ferry service would be time-consuming and perhaps more expensive. Some of the budget flying into Beauvais are : Ryanair, Wizzair, Sterling, Blue Air and Norvegian Air shuttle. Beauvais has over 20 regularly scheduled daily flights not including charter flights.
FROM PARIS (Porte Maillot) TO BEAUVAIS : buses departure from Paris are located at the bus station on the boulevard Pershing, near the hotel Concorde Lafayette. When using this bus service, ensure that you allow at least 3 hours and 15 minutes prior to your flight departure time. Fare is 13 €uros cash only one way in 2009.
FROM BEAUVAIS TO PARIS : buses leave approximatively 20 minutes after each flight arrival. Fare 13 €uros cash only one way.
LOST A LUGGAGE IN THE AIRPORT

RAILWAY STATIONS
Using the TGV, the most rapid train in the world (574.8 km/h), you can organize your trip to France -Paris-Marseille in 3 hours, Paris-Lyon in less than 2 hours, Paris-Strasbourg in 2h20minutes. You can travel from Gare d'Austerlitz, de Lyon, de l'Est, du Nord, Montparnasse or Saint-Lazare. The train gives you access to the city centres.
MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION IN PARIS
The best way to experience Paris is on foot! Therefore ensure that you wear comfortable footwear. There are many ways to get around Paris and the choice is down to the individual's preference. You have the choice of the Metro (subway), the RER (rapid transit rail system in the Paris region), the buses, the Tramway, the Velib ( public rental bicycle) see below for further details.
THE METRO serves essentially Paris and the bordering Neighborhoods. Subway lines have only 2 directions. Just make a note of the number of the line and the direction. It is fairly simple to follow. Price in 2009 : 1 ticket=1.60 €uros - 10 tickets=11.40 €uros.
THE T+TICKET enables the customer to travel on : all Metro lines and the Montmartre funicular, the RER within Paris and the suburbs, to use the Noctilien network (nigh buses) etc...
THE RER : the regional express network serves both the main stations in Paris and also the suburbs. For example, using RER you can get to Versailles castle or Disneyland Paris. The price rate depends on the distance travelled and the zones covered. Once on the platform, check your destination. RER services are defined by letters : A,B,C,D and E.
BUSES the bus network uses the same ticket dydteme as the Metro/RER. However, you will have to purchase another ticket if you are transferring from the Metro/RER over to the bus network.
TRAMWAY There are 4 routes but only one serves the Paris region : between the Pont de Garigliano et Porte d'Ivry.
The VELIB is a self-service bicycle rental scheme. There are subscriptions for 1 day, 7 days or even up to a year. You can subscribe at any 'velib' location centre using a credit card. When you purchase a ticket for 1 or 7 days, you will be asked to choose a secret codewhich you use every time you take out one of the bicycles. The first half hour is free and is inclued in the subscription.
